So, today isn’t going to be a short piece or a piece of prose; rather, today (which should have been yesterday), I’ll simply post. I managed to forget to post yesterday because I was suffering from a terrible migraine all day long, which left me rather useless on the couch. Well, that coupled with a lack of motivation, probably. I forget a lot. I also abandon things a lot (hence the term “forgotten). What I really need is real, true motivation. Something that helps me realize the potential my words have. It’s a hard thing to do, especially when you [...]
It Ain’t Easy
I have come to the conclusion that getting back into writing isn’t as easy as it used to be. At least, not for me. Sure, I spend a lot of time brainstorming column and article ideas, but the closest thing to “writing” that I do during that time frame is editing. What I really need is a push. I used to post my writing everywhere for people to read and see, but now? I don’t share it with anyone really. Maybe that’s my mistake? I can’t better myself if I don’t open myself up to criticism, right? With all those [...]
I Stumbled Upon…
When I first started writing again (and yes, I know I don’t blog much anymore about those endeavers — at least, not here or in my network of writers), I told my readers about why I stopped in the first place: I had lost the manuscript and digital copy of my first completed novel. While that book is still lost in cyberspace, I did happen to come across my old writing blog earlier, when my old wordpress account randomly returned to my memory. And with that discovery, came the recovery of some older pieces of mine — pieces which I’ll [...]
Going Back on my Rant: NaNoWriMo 2012
Last year, you might recall my long winded post about NaNoWriMo, and how it wasn’t for me. When I wrote that, I had every intention of avoiding participating in NaNoWriMo again. Apparently, I lied to myself. This year, I’ve already began (albeit a bit delayed) writing, and I intend to finish, despite my extremely busy schedule. So what am I writing about? If you remember my short story, Envy, from last year’s A to Z challenge, and you enjoyed it, then you might be happy to hear that I am finally penning that character’s entire story. With that said, good [...]
It’s Been Awhile
I was thinking the other day that it’s been a little bit since I last wrote something. It’s been even longer since I last blogged. So today, before I watch the Broncos stomp the Patriots (yes, I’m a Bronco fan, get over it), I decided I’d post a little update for those interested. I’ve finally pulled myself out of the depression that has been hampering my writing and reading. While I haven’t done too much in the way of writing, I’ve certainly started reading again. For Christmas, I received a Kindle. I was finally able to finish Season of the [...]
I Was Kicked Out of Pre-School — A Short #Memoir
I was kicked out of pre-school. For what reasons, I am unsure. According to my parents, I was a holy terror. The exact details, aside from being berated for calling Cruella DeVille an idiot, escape me. I remember my Dad giving me an option: I could either go stay with my grandparents while my siblings were in school, or he could try and talk them into taking me back. At four years old, I chose my grandparents. Being from a family that values education, one might expect a tinge of regret for that decision. I feel none. In fact, it [...]
A Step in the Right Direction
For those who don’t know, I’ve finally re-enrolled in college. I will be majoring in writing and minoring in linguistics. I’ve always felt strongly about language and I figure it’ll be interesting to go into a field where I can surround myself with the things I love constantly. I’m hoping it’ll also give me that last little push I need to get back on track. I’ve started to do a lot of thinking again; a lot of daydreaming, too. I have ideas swimming around — some are stories based on dreams from years ago, others are extensions of things I’ve [...]
Back to Square…
So I finally got the rest of my belongings from Oklahoma City (for those who I’d been telling I was moving, I decided to go back to school before moving anywhere else, therefore I had to grab my things before they were shipped to San Francisco). Upon returning home, I set up my desktop and began going through my files, hoping that maybe I’d have a little bit of luck for once. It seems that finally, Lady Luck has chosen to grant me her favor. I ended up stumbling across a portion of The Last of Humanity. While it’s not [...]
An Unfortunate Event: All WIPs Lost
Today, I was going to post an excerpt from my upcoming novella, The Last of Humanity. Unfortunately, that won’t be happening. Someone took my thumb drive apart and as a consequence, it no longer works. That means I’ve not only lost every word of my novella, but I’ve also lost the map and every half-written idea for my fantasy world. This is a setback, especially since I wanted to get back to writing. However, I intend to persevere. It’s a shame that I’m out of my WIPs. I suppose I’ll restart The Last of Humanity and see where we get [...]
One Chance (#atozchallenge)
I know that I promised I’d do short fiction pieces and poetry, but right now… I can’t. The past two days have been Hell for me, and I feel this is the chance to remind others of this fact: You only get one chance when it comes to life (barring beliefs in karma.) You get one chance to live your life and take it for granted if you will. It’s the same with every animal. I stopped writing about two to two and a half years ago. Why? Because I met this guy who I thought was amazing. I let [...]
