For those who don’t know, I’ve finally re-enrolled in college. I will be majoring in writing and minoring in linguistics. I’ve always felt strongly about language and I figure it’ll be interesting to go into a field where I can surround myself with the things I love constantly. I’m hoping it’ll also give me that last little push I need to get back on track. I’ve started to do a lot of thinking again; a lot of daydreaming, too. I have ideas swimming around — some are stories based on dreams from years ago, others are extensions of things I’ve already written. I also have every intention of, once again, redesigning the world I lost.
Also, I had an interesting conversation at work last week, in regards to this attempt to get my life in order. I had an old woman come through my line (I’m no longer a Tire & Lube Express technician, but rather I am a cashier). She was a sweet little thing. Somehow we got on the subject of schooling and she asked my major. I suppose it surprised her. It turns out, she writes. She usually does children’s books and she has a few lined up to be published. She told me how writing helps her get through hard times in her life — how if she can’t get something off her mind, she puts it on paper and it’s almost like magic. We stood there and talked more than my other customers probably liked, but something about that woman inspired me. I definitely hope I see her again.
